Strawberry season is here!!!! For the rest of the world strawberries are a summer fruit, but here in India, its season is the winter. India’s temperatures are quite warm, making it difficult for berries not just strawberries to grow in the heat. India’s “winter” which is 20C in parts of the country makes it ideal weather for strawberries to grow.
For my first strawberry themed dish, I’ve done a super and I mean super simple strawberry and cucumber salad. I was inspired by a dish I saw on Epicurious however I have changed some things around.
The original recipe calls for creme fraiche, which for those of you gourmands out there already know is quite difficult to find in India. Don’t despair though, I’ve come up with some form of a solution so keep your eyes peeled!
For the salad:
- Strawberries, sliced
- Cucumbers, halved and sliced
- Pistachios, finely sliced
- Lemon juice
- Chilli powder
Since this recipe doesn’t have a dressing dressing, I just arranged the strawberries and cucumbers onto a plate.
In a bowl whisk the yoghurt to get rid of any lumps. Add a pinch of chilli powder and salt and mix some more.
You want to be careful how much lemon juice you add to the yoghurt since it can cause it to split, so its best to add a little at a time until you get the flavour just right.
I drizzled the dressing over the cut strawberries and cucumbers and garnished the plate with some of the chopped pistachios.
