Melted Chocolate Truffle Cookies

I know you’ll are expecting an iced and decorated sugar cookie. But I thought as a part of the advent calendar, why not do an actual cookie. Not everyone is going to have the time to do something complicated like any of my previous posts. They are also perfect to gift to someone.

These cookies are so sinful it’s not funny. Obviously, as soon as they came out of the oven, I ate one. But that was it. I honestly did not eat a single one after that. My parents went through them like they weren’t getting dessert ever again. 

For the cookies:

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/3 cup chopped dark chocolate
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

There’s a little bit of a process to these cookies, but it’s really worth it in the end so bear with me.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder and baking powder.


Using the tips of your fingers, rub the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.


Over a double boiler melt the chopped dark chocolate. Allow it to cool a fair amount and then pour it into the butter and flour mixture.

Combine the chocolate into the dough.

Break an egg and add the vanilla to the bowl. Gently mix it until it comes together.

There’s a slight waiting game here that I was impatient during which is why my cookies have come out so flat. I realized that if you allow the dough to chill before shaping them, there’s a good chance for them to hold their shape.

Once chilled, shape the dough into small balls. Roll each cookie in icing sugar until completely coated and place on a baking sheet.


Bake the cookies for about 10 minutes or until the crust outside is done, and it’s still soft in the centre.

I would recommend allowing the cookies to cool for a good 15 minutes before taking them off the tray. If you don’t, there are very large chances that the cookies will just fall apart.
